Hints & Tips 1 - EXIF Editors

This is the first note in what we hope will be a regular feature and provides us the opportunity to share some of the many questions we get asked. A common one is can you recommend an EXIF editor.

What is EXIF data and why do you need it, you may ask?

One of the unique features of our software is the ability to vary how an image is processed based on the camera settings used when the photograph was taken. To do this we read the EXIF data stored by the camera at the time the picture was taken. Sometimes the information is incomplete (i.e. if the Lens data is not digitally transferred to the camera) or it can sometimes be wrong. The effect is that we are unable to determine the data we need to process the image and you will see the 'LensFIT is Off' message or the 'Super resolution' feture will be unavailable.

We are working on an update to our software that will let you enter this information directly, but in the interim an alternative option is to use an external EXIF EDITOR to add the missing details. We have tried a few and thought we would share our views with you. This is by no means an exhaustive list and if you have experience of any other editors send us an email and we will add them to the list.
