The SizeFixer Challenge Competition

This is a competition we ran last November to see how many people could tell the difference between 4 seemingly identical 6MPixel images. Except they all started out differently. If you want to try the challenge yourself keep reading, but if you want to know the results ... arrow

Larry Buzzell, a keen photographer, recently asked:

"why should I consider purchasing SizeFixer when I already have Adobe Photoshop CS2 and several other leading solutions for resizing my digital images?" .

But then he went on to say:

"... but what would be really useful is if your software would allow me to save images on my camera at lower quality settings and then upsize them back to the best later. That way I'd be able to capture more images and faster using less memory ... and I know the other programs can't do that."

So that gave us the idea for the SizeFixer Challenge. We asked Larry to set his tripod up and take a picture of his back yard 4 times. Each time he selected a different resolution settings on his camera - a Fuji S5000. So what you see below is an illustration of the four images that we received captured at 1MPixel, 2MPixel, 3MPixel and 6MPixel. What we then did was to use SizeFixer SLR is upsize the three smaller images back up to 6Mpixel. So Image 1 shows the relative size of the 1MPixel picture in relation to the final 6MPixel, Image 2 is for the 2MPixel picture, Image 3 is the 3Mpixel version and Image 4 is the 6MPixel photograph. The challenge to you is can you tell which of the four output files below belongs to which original file?

Click on one of the links below each image to view. The full size images are large, at approx 1.7MB so don't try to view if you don't have a Broadband connection. To make it a quicker comparison we have also taken a crop of the central zone of the picture in each case at a 1/4 the original size. Each image should load into a separate window so if you resize the windows you should be able to view all four at once.
