Previously one of the few ways of dealing with digital images with under exposed areas or dark shadows may have been to correct using the brightness and contrast controls, which has the affect of lightening the whole image and lightening the areas that were already correctly exposed. ShadowFixer is designed to be used on an entire image or a large region of an image which has boundaries that lie along those of an object or shadow in the image, blending the over/under exposed regions into the whole picture, whilst enhancing the detail in the fixed areas.

The control panel explained..
Once installed ShadowFixer V2 will appear as a Filter option in Photoshop. To use it you first select an image or image region. The control panel will display the original image in the left window and the adjusted result in the right hand window. To move around the image you drag the mouse to the preferred location. To adjust the level of zoom select the + or -icon. The control panel can be resized to make the preview images larger or smaller.
The primary control is the Radius slider, which can be adjusted from 0 to 100. The slider will remember your setting from the last time you used ShadowFixer. You can fine tune your setting with the Up and Down buttons. Typically you use a large radius, larger than the size of the image details hidden within the shadow. Too low a value may limit the effectiveness of the light adjustment.
The Amount slider may be adjusted from 0% to 100% and controls the degree of light adjustment. A value of zero will produce no correction, increasing as you adjust the amount value. Too high a values may produce saturation in your image. There's a sweet spot somewhere in between depending on your personal preference.
Once you're happy that the preview panel is to your liking, click OK and the selected image or image region will be processed and the result returned to Photoshop.
