Getting Started
Installation
SizeFixer has been designed to install as painlessly as possible. If you have downloaded the software just double click on the setup.exe to begin the installation. If you have purchased SizeFixer on CD then the setup program should launch automatically when the CD is put in the drive. If it does not, open then disk to view the available files and double click on setup.exe to begin. Follow the prompts to install SizeFixer.
The installation is in two parts. The first checks to see whether the MicrosoftTM .NET FrameworkTM v1.1 is already installed on your computer and
if not then it provides the option to install. If the MicrosoftTM .NET FrameworkTM v1.1 is already installed then the SizeFixer installation will commence automatically. If not then you will need to resume the installation of SizeFixer once the MicrosoftTM .NET FrameworkTM v1.1 has been successfully installed. To start the installation again double click on the setup.exe file which will then complete the installation of SizeFixer
itself and the relevant data.
The default installation directory for SizeFixer is the same for all versions of the product and is in the form C:\Program Files\FixerLabs\SizeFixer xxx, where xxx is replaced by either Home, SLR or XL as appropriate. For SizeFixer SLR this would be C:\Program Files\FixerLabs\SizeFixer SLR. Throughout this guide screen shots are for illustration only are are based on SizeFixer SLR. Where specific differences exist between versions of SizeFixer then the relevant details for each version are noted.
Multiple users and SizeFixer
SizeFixer will run under multiple user accounts. Initially, preset configurations (see presets) are only installed for the user who installs SizeFixer. Users can share preset settings using the following steps:
- Login as the user who will run SizeFixer.
- Create a directory in My Documents called SizeFixer.
- The preset files are found in a subdirectory called Presets, located in the installation directory.
The default installation directory for SizeFixer is the same for all versions of the product and is C:\Program Files\FixerLabs\SizeFixer xxx, where xxx is replaced by the Home, SLR or XL as appropriate.. For SizeFixer SLR this would be C:\Program Files\FixerLabs\SizeFixer SLR.
- Copy the following files to My Documents\SizeFixer:
outputsize_presets.xml
parameter_presets.xml
preferences.xml
- You may also wish to add shortcuts in the user's Program Folder or on their Desktop to the User Guide and the
SizeFixer application. For SizeFixer SLR these are:
- C:\Program Files\FixerLabs\SizeFixer SLR\User guide\index.html
- C:\Program Files\FixerLabs\SizeFixer SLR\SizeFixer SLR.exe
SizeFixer will now be able to access presets. If you wish to use your own preset files, you can copy them from
your own My Documents\SizeFixer directory to [Other User's Documents\SizeFixer].
If you're doing this for multiple users, an administrator can perform these steps without individually logging
in to each user's account.
Start Up
A shortcut to launch SizeFixer will have been installed in a new FixerLabs folder with your other Program files. To run SizeFixer, select Start\All Programs\FixerLabs\. and double click on SizeFixer.
SizeFixer requires the entry of a valid serial number to operate and the Start Up dialogue will continue to display until the software is fully registered. Please note
that the registration process requires an internet connection to complete successfully. If no internet connection is found you will be prompted to either connect to the internet (using your default network connection) or use another computer that has a valid internet connection. If you chose to use another computer you will need to follow the onscreen instructions to manually activate you software.
To begin use of the software you may either enter a time limited serial number to Activate the free trial, or a full license serial number to Register your software.
If you do not have a valid serial number you may also purchase a full license
directly by selecting the 'Buy' button and entering your details. At the end of the purchase process you software will automatically be Registered and a copy of the serial number details will be sent to you by email.
Trial Activation
Select the 'Activate Trial' button from the Start Up dialogue and enter your special time limited serial number details click 'Activate' to begin your trial.
During the period of the trial the Start Up dialogue will display the time remaining for your trial and you will need to click the 'Continue Trial' button to begin use of the software. Once the trial period has ended will need to purchase of a full license to continue operation of the software.
To obtain a trial serial number visit www.fixerlabs.com and register for the SizeFixer Trial. You will then be sent an email with the details which can be entered to activate your trial.
Registration
If you have already purchased a full licence you can select the 'Register' button from the Start Up dialogue and enter your details to begin operation of the software..
Enter your name and the serial number that came with SizeFixer and click 'Register'.
If you experience any problems, first double check that you're typing the serial number correctly. If it doesn't match, it won't work. A red exclamation mark will appear to the right of the serial number entry box if the format is wrong. Contact support if you have any problems (support@fixerlabs.com).
Additional information of interest
The following may be of interest to some users.
.NETTM Framework
SizeFixer utilises Microsoft's .NET Framework, which is a technology developed
for webservices and applications by MicrosoftTM. We've used it because it makes
WindowsTM development much quicker, and allows us to create stable applications
more easily.
It has been included as part of Windows Update for some time, since it is being
integrated into Windows itself, and so it's possible that your machine already
has the Framework installed. If it does not, or it has an earlier version,
Setup will prompt you to install. If you do not, Setup will not continue.
SizeFixer cannot run without the .NETTM Framework installed.
